Tamar Braxton Breaks Silence On Alleged Suicide Attempt: “Mental Illness Is real”

Two weeks after she attempted to take her own life, Tamar Braxton is speaking out, thanking fans, God and more for the support as she walks through this difficult journey with mental illness and healing.

“Thank you to each and every individual who has prayed for me, thought of me, sent me their love and has showered me with their support,” the statement began. “In this present moment, it is my only responsibility to be real with myself and to be real with the ones who truly love me and care for my healing. I have without fail, shared with you my brightest days, and I know that sharing with you what has been my darkest will be the light for any man or woman who is feeling the same defeat I felt just only a week ago.”

She continued, “Every one of us has a desire, whether small or big, to make it out of where we come from to an ideal future place that includes, freedom to be who we choose, security for our children and families, and fortune to share with the ones we love. We believe these things can co-exist with just being happy. I believed that, that as a black woman, as an artist, an influence, a personality I could shape my world, and with whom I believed to be my partners, they could help me share my world.

Over the past 11 years there were promises made to protect and portray my story, with the authenticity and honesty I gave. I was betrayed, taken advantage of, overworked, and underpaid. I wrote a letter over 2 months ago asking to be freed from what I believed was excessive and unfair. I explained in personal detail the demise I was experiencing. My cry for help went totally ignored. However the demands persisted. It was my spirit, and my soul that was tainted the most. There are a few things I count on most to be, a good mother, a good daughter, a good partner, a good sister, and a good person. Who I was, begun to mean little to nothing, because it would only be how I was portrayed on television that would matter. It was witnessing the slow death of the woman I became, that discouraged my will to fight. I felt like I was no longer living, I was existing for the purpose of a corporations gain and ratings, and that killed me.”

The lengthy post contained a gripping word from Tamar that highlights a fact, mental illness is indeed “real” and normalization of it has to take place. Braxton was hospitalized on July 17 following a 911 call made by her boyfriend who said the singer attempted to take her own life in Los Angeles. She reportedly sent her network a suicide note, alleging that she was a slave and no longer in control of her life.

“The pain that I have experienced over the past 11 years has slowly ate away at my spirit and my mental,” she added. “I will do everything in my power to aid those who from mental illness, including those of us who’s mental illness was only a result from the toxic, systematic bondage that dwells television. It was only God’s grace and his mercy on my attempt to end my pain and my life that I am here to utilize my voice.”

Herman Cain, the former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza who at one point was the front-runner in the 2012 Republican primary, has died. He was 74.

The news was confirmed by his official website.

Cain, who had previously battled and survived stage 4 colon cancer, had contracted COVID-19 following a rally for Donald Trump in Tulsa, Oklahoma in June. He had been hospitalized in Atlanta since July 1. Aides close to him were hopeful for recovery according to his official website but he never advanced towards the next phase in recovery.

His Twitter account and social media updates vaguely mentioned his battle with COVID and instead pivoted towards skepticism towards the virus and the nation’s handling of it.

A graduate of Morehouse College with a degree in mathematics, Cain rose quickly in conservative ranks after he took on Bill Clinton in a televised chat about small business when he was the president-elect of the National Restaurant Association.

In 2011, he announced he was running for President after a failed run in 2000. Touting a 9-9-9 economic plan, he won numerous straw polls and was seen at the time as a potential nominee. However, scandal rocked his campaign as numerous women came forth to accuse Cain of sexual harassment. He suspended his campaign in December 2011 and later became a columnist and frequent guest on conservative outlets such as FoxNews and NewsMax.

He was briefly touted as a pick to join the board of the Federal Reserve in the early days of the Trump administration but declined to join.

Cain leaves behind his wife Gloria, his son Vincent, daughter Melaine and numerous grandchildren.

Jada Pinkett Smith Confirms August Alsina Relationship: “I Just Wanted To Feel Good”

2017 BET Awards - Red Carpet

Jada Pinkett Smith said she was going to bring herself to the table and sure enough, she did.

The actress revealed the highly anticipated episode of Red Table Talk on Facebook Watch on Friday (July 10) after holding off for a week due to various circumstances occurring throughout the country. She sat down across from her husband Will Smith and finally put to bed all of the questions surrounding her relationship with August Alsina.

“I got into an entanglement with August … a relationship,” Jada said after revealing that she and her husband of 22 years had been separated at the time. “I was in a lot of pain. I was broken.”

She added, “I just wanted to feel good. It had been so long since I feel good, right? And it felt good to help heal someone. I think it dealt a lot with my co-dependency … needing to fix, needing to help, there’s something about that childhood trauma that feels as though it can be fixed through fixing people versus fixing me.”

According to Jada’s timeline, the two got involved with one another as she and Will were separated in 2016. It initially began as a friendship and then evolved into something more. When Will and Jada reconciled, that’s when Alsina cut all communication to Jada. The Smiths did dispel the notion that Will gave August “his blessing” to date Jada as the only person who would have been able to give Jada permission to date anybody is Jada.

The singer recently spoke on the relationship in an interview promoting his new album as well as his journey through health challenges and the loss of close family.

“People can have whatever ideas that they like. But what I’m not OK with is my character being in question …” Alsina said. “Contrary to what some people may believe, I’m not a troublemaker. I don’t like drama. Drama actually makes me nauseous. I also don’t think that it’s ever important for people to know what I do, who I sleep with, who I date, right? But in this instance, there are so many people who are side-eyeing me … I’ve lost money, friendships, relationships behind it. And I think it’s because people don’t necessarily know the truth. But I’ve never done anything wrong. I love those people (the Smiths) … They are beautiful people.”

Will admitted in the episode that he felt “like that husband like I’m with you at the press conference while you tell the world about the transgressions” during the sitdown but loves Jada no matter what.

“I was sure I never was gon’ speak to you again,” the I Am Legend star said. “The fact that I’m speaking to you again is a miracle.”

‘Political Stunt’: Botham Jean’s Mom Calls Out Trump’s Messaging Amid Executive Order

Funeral Held For Botham Shem Jean, Who Was Killed By Dallas Police Officer Amber Guyger When She Entered Wrong Apartment

Botham Jean‘s mom has some words for Donald Trump after his executive order signing concerning police reform.

According to Axios, Trump signed the order on Tuesday, which encourages limiting the use of chokeholds and developing a national database for police misconduct. Many lawmakers have already criticized the order as not doing enough to address police violence, particularly after protests have erupted around the world over the deaths of people like George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and Rayshard Brooks.

During the signing, Trump name-dropped other victims of police or racialized violence, saying that he spoke to their families. He specifically mentioned the families of Antwon Rose II, Jemel Roberson, Atatiana Jefferson, Michael Dean, Darius Tarver, Cameron Lamb, Everett Palmer, Jr., Ahmaud Arbery and Botham Jean. None of these families were present at the White House Rose Garden signing.

Jean’s mom, Allison Jean, questioned Trump’s genuineness when he decided to utter her deceased son’s name.

According to Loop, Jean said, “I am not an American and I will not meddle in American politics but I believe it is a political stunt to seem to be recognising black people to see how much they could be swayed to vote for Trump in November.”

She continued, “However, it does bring some benefit to my family because the police reform is intended to improve the policing system in the United States so I’m hoping that my three grandchildren in the United States will be living in a better place when they are approached by police.”

Jean is Saint Lucian, however, her son Botham was a resident of Dallas, Texas when an off-duty cop, Amber Guyger, shot him in his own apartment. Guyger argued that she thought she was entering her own apartment back in September 2018 after a day of work. When she saw Jean, who was eating serial and prepping for a football game on T.V. that night, Guyger said she believed he was an intruder and she fatally shot him. Guyger was eventually convicted of murder and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Despite the end of the criminal trial, Guyger’s lawyer eventually filed an appeal requesting a new trial. Meanwhile, Jean’s family filed a civil lawsuit against the city of Dallas, considering Guyger was still in her law enforcement uniform and was still a police officer when she fatally shot Botham. The civil suit was eventually dismissed in December 2019.

In response to Trump’s executive order signing, Allison Jean went on to say that although she believes his presentation was a political stunt, she still hopes police trainings will help bereaved familes like hers.

“The fact that Donald Trump actually said that proper training might have prevented the tragic death of Botham Jean…To hear the President say that, reinforces our civil claim that it was improper training that was given to Amber Guyger by the City of Dallas that caused her to act in the way she did when she approached Botham on September 6 2018,” Jean said. “So I’m hoping that out of that we would hear of the settlement by the Dallas City so we can continue our lives. It has kept us back for a while”

Trump’s executive order still made it clear that he believes in “law and order” and he argued that there are a “small number of bad police officers…They are very tiny. I use the word ‘tiny.’ It is a very small percentage. But you have them.”

Trump also made it clear that he was against many activist’s demands to defund and dismantle the police altogether.

The justices rejected claims that the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program is illegal and said courts have no role to play in reviewing the decision to end the program.

According to Chief Justice John Roberts, the Trump administration did not pursue the end of the program properly.

“We do not decide whether DACA or its rescission are sound policies,” Roberts wrote. “We address only whether the agency complied with the procedural requirement that it provide a reasoned explanation for its action. Here the agency failed to consider the conspicuous issues of whether to retain forbearance and what if anything to do about the hardship to DACA recipients.”

Justice Roberts invited the Department of Homeland Security to try again.

Officer Charged With Felony Murder In The Death Of Rayshard Brooks

Garrett Rolfe, the former Atlanta police officer who fatally shot Rayshard Brooks on June 12 outside of a Wendy’s, has been charged with 11 counts including felony murder, aggravated assault, criminal damage to property and violations of his oath of office..  If convicted, Rolfe faces either life in prison or the death penalty.

The announcement came from Fulton County DA Paul Howard on Wednesday (June 17).

Rolfe along with former officer Devin Bronsan engaged Brooks for 41 minutes and 17 seconds that night outside the Wendy’s on University Ave. According to DA Howard, not once did they inform Brooks that he was under arrest and the 27-year-old was cooperative with them throughout.

Bronsan, according to DA Howard agreed to become a state witness. He’s being charged with three counts of aggravated assault, including an assault charge for standing on top of Brooks’ shoulders as he lay dying. The officers, who are required by law to render aid to a shooting victim, did not give aid to Brooks for two minutes and twelve seconds as he fought for his life.

“During that 2 minutes and 12 seconds, Officer Rolfe actually kicked Mr. Brooks as he laid on the ground, while he was there fighting for his life,” Howard said. “Officer Brosnan actually stood on Mr. Brooks shoulder.”

Howard also said that Brooks at the time of his death did not pose a threat to the officers and that it is against Atlanta PD’s code of conduct for them to fire any weapon, whether it be a taser or a gun at a suspect who is running.

“We have also concluded that Rolfe was aware that the Taser in Brooks’ possession, it was fired twice, and once it’s fired twice it presented no danger to him or to any other persons,” Howard said.

Both former officers have been asked to turn themselves in by 6 p.m. tomorrow. Howard recommended a $50,000 bond for Bronsan due to his cooperation and no bond for Rolfe.
