All eyes are on Nicki Minaj, as she gears up to drop her latest studio album ‘The Pinkprint‘ on December 15. The Young Money MC took to Instagram to drop a few behind-the-scenes shots of her new video “Only”, which features Lil Wayne, Drake and Chris Brown.
And much like her recent spread in ‘V Magazine‘, Nick’s once again looking like fine art. See the pics below.
I didn’t watch the Aaliyah movie with high hopes last night. When you hear they couldn’t use the original music of her life and see that her actual circle had nothing to do with it, you just know it has no chance of being decent. Let’s also NEVER FORGET that Lifetime made a Michael Jackson movie starring Flex Washington…..I’ll just let you flashback for a minute.
Social Media will never let you down in times like this. Check out some of the best memes of the night inspired by the Lifetime Aaliyah Movie.
It’s about damn time Marvel started addressing its diversity issue. Marvel Studios officially confirmed today at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood that Chadwick Boseman will don the cowl of the “Black Panther,” when the film hits theaters on November 3, 2017. The months of teases and maybes are finally over.
The Black Panther, whose real name is T’Challa, is the ruler of the fictional African nation of Wakanda, a technologically advanced and economically thriving civilization. Wakanda is also the main source of the mineral vibranium — the stuff that makes up Captain America’s shield. The Black Panther is Batman, minus the dead parents, but with the resources of an entire civilization at his disposal.
The plot of the actual movie is being kept under wraps, as usual, but it’s safe to assume that we’ll be treated to some sort of Black Panther showing early because his arch nemesis, Ulysses Klaw, played by motion-capture legend Andy Serkis, will appear in “Avengers: Age of Ultron.”Boseman himself is also reported to have a significant role in the upcoming Captain America sequel, “Civil War.”
Along with the “Black Panther” news, Marvel president Kevin Feige announced a slew of movies for Phases 3 and 4 of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. Check out the list of movies below. Marvel is rumored to have films planned as far ahead as the year 2022, so this is just the start.

ABC’s new family sitcom “Black-ish,” starring and executive produced by Anthony Anderson and created by Kenya Barris, has a lot going for it even before its premiere on ABC next week. It’s the first show on the network in a long while to focus entirely around a black family and offers the cultural perspectives of three different generations of African-Americans.
It’s also taking over a coveted 9:30 prime-time slot, namely the one after TV’s #1 comedy “Modern Family.” ABC even managed to snag Larry Willmore to help with writing duties for the first few episodes before he takes over the vacant spot left by Stephen Colbert on Comedy Central. It’s safe to say that expectations are sky high for this series.
Anderson stars as Andre “Dre” Johnson, the head of a more than well off African-American family in Los Angeles, which includes Tracee Ellis Ross as wife/mother/doctor Rainbow Johnson, four pre-teen to teenaged kids, and Laurence Fishburne (who also produces) inwisecracking granddad mode as “Pops” Johnson. The show follows the family as they all struggle with the question of what it means to be “black” in contemporary American society. “Black-ish” is scheduled to premiere on ABC next Wednesday, but iTunes has the pilot for free right now, so hit the jump for my thoughts.
1. Opening the show with “Jesus Walks,” huh? I get that it alludes to the whole black bourgeois thing, but why Jesus Walks…?
2. So her name is actually Rainbow…cool.
3. I get that this show takes place in LA, but that’s a LOT of Clippers gear!
4. No way would any family stand there while Hollywood tourists gawked at them.
5. That redhead was too busy being rude to bother parking her car straight!
6. Robin Thicke’s not an R&B god anymore…
7. Why did no one ever think to cast Laurence Fishburne as a granddad before? Perfect!
8. Anthony Anderson has gone from dancing with kangaroos to the Senior Vice President of a company – in his roles, I mean.
9. No better way to start a series than “son chooses after-school activity that disappoints dad,” in this case field hockey.
10. Andy isn’t the kind of name I think of when I think of “edgy but approachable.”
11. You know what? I’ll say it. I can get used to seeing Anthony Anderson as the cool guy…
12. …but I can’t get used to him wearing that polka dotted shirt with that nice blazer.
13. …or this talented cast being stranded with a slightly less than average script
14. If Undercover Brother has taught me anything, that’s not how a black guy would say good morning.
Kidding!
15. “If you chase a squirrel, you’d better be prepared to eat his nuts”. That is all.
16. So are Andre and this out of touch white guy in the green sweater supposed to be enemies or is he just another comic foil?
17. Baked fried chicken = dining faux pas
18. So the dad is overbearing, the mom is chill, the kids are clueless, and the granddad’s sardonic? Okay.
19. The generational divide when it comes to race is a great topic that I hope is explored further.
20. Can’t remember the last time I heard someone say “keeping it real.”
21. Tracee Ellis Ross, always good to see her.
22. Bi-racial is its own category, as far as I’m concerned. Best and worst of both worlds!
23. Hinting at sex on an ABC show? We’ve come a long way!
24. The black kid wanting a bar mitzvah moment is what inspired this show in the first place so, of course, here it is in the pilot.
25. And Pops is off to the track! Relic of a by-gone age.
26. Anthony Anderson is the only person I can see doing this part the way it’s written. When he yells it’s VERY hard to take him seriously.
27. Give Tracey Ellis Ross more to do! I wanna see her do doctor stuff on top of killing it in the house!
28. LA riots, Malcolm X, boxing, and OJ’s White Bronco all in one montage? Yeesh!
29. He’s in a dashiki throwing chicken bones at his son…
30. You’re going to throw away your job because it isn’t called what you wanted it to be called, Andre? Really?
31. Andre Jr. is trying to hold onto his first boob. I’m glad ABC is letting stuff like this slide.
32. Hip-Hop Bro-Mitzvah: a place for Adidas track suits, Kangol bucket hats, and little children dancing.
33. HOW MANY TIMES ARE THEY GONNA TO SAY KEEPING IT REAL?
34. Urban = hip. colorful, and cool. Did Andre really not see that before?
As far as pilots go, “Black-ish” is looking like a grower. It’s got a great cast with great chemistry and a lot of great things to say about cultural identity in contemporary America, but it’s just not very funny, and for a comedy, that’s a big problem. The cast’s delivery saves the show, with Laurence Fishburne’s Pops being the standout. Maybe now that the characters have been introduced and relationships have been established, they’ll start to bring the comedic heat.

There are few public figures in any facet of our culture who are as out-spoken, controversial, and attention-grabbing as MC/producer/designer/director Kanye West. When he says something, shows face with his wife Kim Kardashian, or even cuts his hair, it immediately becomes national news.
The most recent incident involves West allegedly demanding a handicapped fan to stand up during a show on the Australian leg of his Yeezus Tour. No matter what you may think of West, his outspoken nature easily makes him one of the most topical and polarizing figures in pop culture today, whether we like it or not. Hit the jump for seven other crazy Kanye West moments and his response to the media in Australia below.
Taylor Swift/VMAs
After winning the Best Female Video award at the 2009 VMAs, country singer Taylor Swift’s moment in the sun was interrupted by Kanye as he went on his infamous rant, claiming that “Beyonce had the best video of all time.”
Kanye Goes Off-Script During Hurricane Katrina Benefit Concert
During a benefit concert for Hurricane Katrina being broadcast on NBC, West put then-president George W. Bush on blast in an unscripted rant about how African-Americans are portrayed in the media, ending with a bomb of a statement: “George Bush doesn’t care about black people.” The looks of surprise from Chris Tucker and Mike Meyers are priceless.
Assaulting Person Who Called His Wife A “N****r Lover”
While out looking for furniture in Beverly Hills, CA, an 18-year-old man called Kim Kardashian a list of slurs, including “n****r lover,” before West himself came to his wife’s aid. The couple followed the assailant to a chiropractor’s office where West allegedly punched the man a number of times before leaving.
Fighting With Sway On “Sway In The Morning”
Kanye appeared on Sway In The Morning and got into a heated argument with prolific talk show host Sway Calloway live on the air.
Yeezus Tour Merch/Rants
West is currently touring his latest album “Yeezus,” the first time he’s done so in five years – and boy did he make an entrance. Not only was there a selection of Confederate Flag sporting merchandise for sale, West took a considerable amount of time during each of his shows to sound off about whatever’s been annoying him at the moment. Above is his rant from the Bonnaroo Festival this past June.
Martin Louis the King Jr. Name Change
In promotion of a new sneaker that he designed for luxury fashion line Louis Vutton in 2009, West declared that he would change his name to Martin Louis the King Jr…for no particular reason.
Feud With Jimmy Kimmel
West went off on late night host Jimmy Kimmel last year via Twitter when Kimmel made a spoof of his interview with the BBC (see above). The two decided to make amends by having West come onto the show and talk it out. Check out the video below.
Rolling Stone Jesus Pose
Shortly after his 2005 Grammy win for “Jesus Walks,” West interviewed with Rolling Stone about his career up to that point. The cover photo, which showed West adorned in a crown of thorns, caused quite a stir among readers, to which he replied: “You want me to be great, but you don’t ever want me to say I’m great?”

Renowned tattoo artist Davee Blowsjoined forces with street wear clothing company Mishka NYC to host an exhibit of his work on Friday, August 29. All of Brooklyn seemed to show up in support with their Death Adder and Keep Watch merchandise in tow. This was a night for both parties to celebrate.
Founded in 2003 by Mikhail Bortnik and Greg Rivera, Mishka has slowly but surely established itself as a clothing brand to watch, the majority of which is adorned in graphic yet cartoony images involving bears and eyeballs, veins and all. The “Keep Watch” eyeballs and logo have helped the company open stores across the country and even in Tokyo.
Given Mishka’s penchant for the unusual, it’s no surprise that their path collided with Blows. A tattoo artist whose work blends traditional style with cartoon zaniness, Blows has done tattoos in 46 countries around the world and eventually plans to lay down ink on all seven continents.
The two globetrotting forces came together last night for an exhibit in the middle of the store on 350 Broadway in Brooklyn, NY. Blows’ “100Panthers Vol. 1″ is a series of 27 works featuring panthers, all shaped by Blows’ maximalist hyper-art style, in various different ways. Some are slanted and obscured, some blend into their respective canvases, some (okay, one) looks like Mr. T. Check out the rest of the photos from the event below!
Let’s meet Shane (in spirit). Shane works at Walmart. Shane has a sense of humor. But you know who doesn’t have a sense of humor? His boss. His boss lets him know everything that he’s been doing wrong on the department whiteboard, and it’s only hilarious. His coworker took pics of some of what his boss said. Take a look below!

Luckily, we still have shots from her “Vogue” Brazil cover to hold us over.
