It was the most talked about occurrence at last year’s Soul Train Awards (Nov 09), and now R&B diva Toni Braxton is setting the record straight.

During the performance of her lead single “Yesterday,” featuring Trey Songz, off the new album Pulse, Braxton and Songz locked lips, sending the blogosphere and Twitter in a finger-typing frenzy.

Rumors even followed that the kiss was a possible factor in Braxton’s separation from her husband.

So how did that kiss come about?

“Trey and I didn’t meet until the day before that performance.” She tells Rap-Up TV. “We had not met each other but we were fans of each other. I remember Fatima, the choreographer, said the song is a sad love song but I don’t want people to think that it’s the finale; that it’s over. Maybe you should make them think it’s not over…so you guys should do a kiss.”

At first, Braxton says she was a bit skeptical about the kiss but played along.

“I’m like what kind of Kiss…like on the cheek,” she says. “Trey said I would do that. Trey is fantastic…he’s wonderful…we checked each other’s lips for cooties…we were fine and we went on with it.”

Braxton somewhat played down Trey though, adding, “A lot of people say if me and R. Kelly had a kid, it would be Trey Songz. He sounds like both of us.”
