Would you let your child stay home from school if you thought they were too stressed or feeling depressed? One mom says she allows her children to take a “mental health day” once a year.

Kelly Pedro’s 10-year-old daughter was allowed to stay at home after Pedro noticed her behavior, “She looked exhausted and I knew she was in a funk with some of her school friends.”

Early childhood consultant, Julie Romanowski says that you should talk to children about mental health and what it means and parents should ultimately make the decision of when to keep a child home instead of leaving it up to the child who may take advantage of getting a day off.

Do you think giving your child a “mental health day” is a good thing or an excuse to not go to school?
