Gun violence has targeted teenagers once again in central Indiana. A teenager died after a shooting at Wes Montgomery park on the city’s northeast side around 6:30 last night. When Officers arrived at the Park they found the victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Police are not yet releasing the 18-year-old’s name. Apparently, he was sitting in a car at the Park with his girlfriend when someone came up and shot him at close range. Police say the victim had plans to meet the suspect in the park. “It was an arranged meeting for what reason we don’t know at this time,” said Police Captain Harold Turner. Police think that meeting went south perhaps because the suspect tried to rob the victim and ended up shooting him several times in the stomach, right in front of his girlfriend. Now police are trying to find the person who killed him.
One person is dead after a hit and run accident just after 9 p.m. last night. Police say a 44-year-old male died after a driver struck him and drove away. Another victim was transported to the hospital in stable condition after the accident. A witness told police she saw the bodies lying in the road as she drove down Stop 11 Road. IMPD detectives found a mirror from the car, and are trying to determine the color, make and model of the vehicle that hit the victims.
Tonight’s vote by the IPS school board could make it official – the doors of Broad Ripple High school could be closing in the spring of next year. The problem? Broad Ripple High School was built for 2,400 students. Right now there are only 502 students enrolled. That’s less than 25% capacity. IPS wants to sell the school. Famous names that are alumni of Broad Ripple High School Former Indiana Pacer George Hill, NBA Coach and former player Mike Woodson and late night legend David Letterman.
