A deal that would’ve transformed Indianapolis’ old City Hall and old Indiana State Museum, at Alabama and Ohio Streets downtown, into a boutique hotel and art gallery is now dead. The Indianapolis Star reported, after two-years of planning, the city is going back to the drawing board in the search process for viable projects for the usage of that historic building. 21c Museum Hotels signed a deal back in 2015 with the Ballard administration that was supposed to start construction on the $55 million project this year. Current city officials from the Hogsett administration said the Kentucky-based company made it clear to them there was “no foreseeable way” for the project to happen.
The first of the workers at Rexnard are working their final days with the company. Union officials said Rexnard started posting layoff notices during Monday’s workday. It’s at that time that twenty three workers got their two weeks’ notice. Eventually all 260 workers at the bearings plant here in Indianapolis will lose their jobs when the plant moves across the border to Monterrey, Mexico.
Twelve years in prison. That’s the punishment for the latest person to be sentenced in what prosecutors are calling a horrendous case of neglect. A judge on Monday handed down the sentence to Crystal Sells, who police say allowed her mentally handicapped niece to waste away inside a locked room for years. Sells’ grandparents are already serving 24-years for their role. Police say the 15-year-old disabled girl weighed just 40-pounds when they rescued her in 2015.
Columbus, Indiana police accuse a pastor there of staging a home burglary to scam his insurance company. Officials say Reverend Justin White was going to use the money to pay off a drug debt. Last December, White claimed someone broke into his house while he was preaching at church and stole $11,000 in valuables. White has resigned from his position at First Christian Church.
One person is dead following a crash on I-465 on the city’s east side. INDOT said the accident closed the ramp to I-70 eastbound during Monday’s evening rush hour. Only one vehicle was involved in the deadly crash. The cause is still under investigation.
And on Tuesday morning, the morning commute was rough for some due to an early morning crash in downtown Indy at the North Split. Fox 59 reported driver error was the cause of a semi-truck flipping and spilling it’s load in the curve from westbound I-70 to southbound I-65/70. That driver was going too fast, lost control, skimmed the truck along the barrier wall before the rig tipped over. The driver had minor injuries in the crash and was taken to IU/Methodist Hospital for treatment.

Healthcare reform isn’t dead after all. That’s a suggestion by White House spokesman Sean Spicer. He told reporters President Donald Trump is ready and willing to work with Democrats and Republicans to improve healthcare coverage. GOP leaders withdrew their healthcare bill on Friday when it became clear they didn’t have the votes to overcome united Democratic opposition on repealing and replacing Obamacare.
The chairman of the House Intelligence Committee has dug in his heels and said he isn’t going to step down from the investigation into Russia’s interference in last year’s election. Democrats are asking California Republican Devin Nunes to step aside after it was revealed he secretly visited the White House last week before announcing what he called incidental surveillance of President Trump’s transition team.
The Senate Judiciary Committee is delaying a vote on Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch for one week. Democrats asked for the delay, saying they want more time to review Gorsuch’s testimony before the committee last week. President Trump nominated Gorsuch to replace Justice Antonin Scalia, who died more than a year ago.
President Trump will issue an executive order today that will start to unravel many of the Obama administration’s moves on climate change. It will start an EPA review of the 2015 Clean Power Plan and end a moratorium on leasing federal land for coal mining. Officials say the order is aimed at protecting jobs while making America energy independent.
The federal government’s official watchdog agency is going to take a close look at President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort. The Government Accountability Office (GAO) will review the costs and security precautions involved with Trump’s almost weekly trips to the private club his business owns and operates in Palm Beach, Florida. The GAO is answering a request from leading Democrats in Congress. Trump has made at least five trips to Mar-a-Lago since inauguration day.

There are reports President Trump plans to name New Jersey Governor Chris Christie as chairman of a commission aimed at fighting the nation’s opioid problem. The Washington Post first reported on Friday that Christie has been working with the president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, on this issue. According to reports, the new post would be part-time and unpaid so Christie doesn’t have to give up his governorship. The official announcement is likely later this week. So far, Christie’s office remains mum.
The owner of the Cincinnati nightclub where a deadly shooting happened over the weekend says it’s closing down permanently. One person was killed and 16 others were wounded by gunfire at the Cameo Club early Sunday morning.
Ford will reportedly make “significant” investments in three of its assembly plants in Michigan. Sources tell The Detroit News the carmaker will announce the details today. Earlier this month, President Trump called for auto companies to build more factories and create more jobs within the United States.

The state of Michigan is set to pay $87 million to repair lead water pipes in Flint under a new settlement. A hearing to approve the agreement is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon in a federal court in Detroit. If a judge green-lights the deal, the Flint and state government will have to dig up, inspect and replace any contaminated water lines by year 2020. Michigan also agreed to set an extra $10 million aside for any other expenses. The project cost almost equals the $100 million Michigan received in federal money from the Environmental Protection Agency this month.
The company behind the controversial Dakota Access oil pipeline is taking the final steps to get oil flowing. In a court filing, Energy Transfer Partners says the pipeline underneath North Dakota’s Lake Oahe has been filled with oil.
Rapper Wiz Khalifa is setting off outrage over a visit to the grave of the notorious late Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar. The rapper posted photos on his Instagram account showing himself at Escobar’s grave in Medellin, Colombia. In the late 1980s, Escobar set off a wave of murderous violence that continued until he died in a shootout with police in 1993.

The Hoosiers introduced their new head basketball coach, Archie Miller, during a press conference on Monday. Miller joins Indiana after coaching the past six seasons at Dayton. He led the Flyers to the past four NCAA Tournaments, and had a 139-and-63 record. Miller replaces Tom Crean, who was fired after leading Indiana to a 18-and-16 mark this year.
The Pacers host the Minnesota Timberwolves tonight at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The Pacers have nine games left in the regular season and sit at 37-36 on the year. Tip is at 7 p.m. Eastern.
Colts owner Jim Irsay is open to trading down in the upcoming 2017 NFL Draft, according to published reports. Irsay told The Indianapolis Star at the league meetings in Phoenix on Monday that the team hopes to accumulate as many draft picks as they can and that the team wouldn’t hesitate to move down to get more picks. The Colts hold the 15th overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft.
Raiders are on the move! At that same annual league meeting, NFL team owners voted to approve the Oakland Raiders plan to move to Las Vegas. The vote passed on Monday 31-1. Dolphins owner Stephen Ross was the only vote against the move. The Raiders won’t leave California heading to Sin City until at least 2020. That’s when their new domed stadium will be complete. The team holds one-year lease options at Oakland County Coliseum for the next two years. The team’s general manager also picked up an honor. Click the Tweet below for more details:
