A memorial will be held today with funeral services on Wednesday for four sisters who were killed in a fire in their home last week in Flora Indiana. According to The Lafayette Journal and Courier newspaper, the community will gather at a memorial from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the Carroll Jr./Sr. High School gymnasium. The funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. also at the school.

The girls, Kionnie Precious Welch, 5, Kerriele Danyell McDonald, 7, Keyara Janell Phillips, 9, and Keyana Latrice Davis, 11, died of asphyxiation due to smoke inhalation. Their mom, Gaylin Rose, was critically injured in the blaze on November 21 but was released from the hospital after treatment of her injuries over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:  Rose’s family is currently seeking contributions “to rebuild Gaylin’s life,” according to obituaries. Donations should be made to: Lafayette Bank & Trust, 805 E. Columbia St., Flora, IN 46929, C/O Gaylin Latrice Rose.

The two police officers, who rushed into the burning house to save the girls and their mom, are now both out of the hospital as well. Carroll County Sheriff’s Deputy Drew Yoder was released Sunday afternoon. He suffered serious burns to his hands and face. Flora police Officer Josh Disinger dragged Yoder out of the burning home when smoke made their rescue attempt futile. Disinger was treated for smoke inhalation and released on the same day of the deadly blaze. The cause of the fire was officially listed as “undetermined” due to the extensive damage on the house.

Each girl’s obituary is linked to her name above. Click each to learn more about these sisters. Reverend John Girton, Jr., senior pastor of Christ Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis, will officiate the memorial and service at the high school. The school is located at 2362 IN-18, Flora, IN.
