With the start of NBA training camps right around the corner, former IU standout and current Oklahome Thunder guard Victor Oladipo tells Complex Sports there is “no question” anthem protests will crop up in the NBA. He says fans will be looking at guys in the league to see what they will do. Oladipo adds that the beauty of the United States is being able to do whatever you feel is best that will help you do whatever you believe. The Indiana Hoosiers product was traded by the Orlando Magic to Oklahoma City in June.
Back in the NFL preseason, San Francisco Quarterback Collin Kaepernick started protesting the anthem during the NFL preseason, first by sitting and then by kneeling. He says he will continue to do so in an effort to bring attention to racial oppression and police brutality in the U.S. Other NFL players have since joined in by kneeling or standing with their fists raised. Soccer star Megan Rapinoe has also protested the anthem over social issues.
