While Donald Trump’s plans include a trip back here to Indiana for a GOP presidential campaign rally Tuesday evening in Westfield, The Washington Times, is citing an Indiana delegate to the Republican National Convention who’s telling them Indiana Governor Mike Pence has a “95-percent probability” to become Donald Trump’s vice presidential running mate. A decision regarding Pence will have to come soon. Friday is his deadline to remove his name from Indiana’s November ballot in the governor’s race.
More than 600 people gathered for a peaceful protest at the Indiana statehouse Saturday. A huge crowd joined with and marched along side Indiana Black Lives Matter organizers in response to last week’s police action shootings of Alton Sterling in Louisiana and Philando Castile in Minnesota and the lone-sniper murders of five Dallas police officers. Indianapolis organizer, Danielle Long, says she wants to bring the community together, but also send a message.
Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett says the city must act, because the demographics of violence look so different than the demographics of the city. Hogsett spoke at a weekend prayer vigil after last week’s police-action shootings and the deadly ambush of officers in Dallas. The mayor says too many people died for “no reason” last week.
While protests here in Indy have been peaceful…That was not the case everywhere else. Arrests are continuing at some. It’s estimated that over 300 demonstrators in various cities have been detained since Friday. Almost 50 people were arrested late Sunday night in Baton Rouge after protesters marched to the state capitol and later blocked streets. Baton Rouge is where 37 year old Sterling was shot by police last Tuesday. In Minnesota…state and local officials are speaking out following protests over the weekend in St. Paul. More than 100 arrests were made there and over 20 officers were hurt when activists shut down Interstate 94 and pelted officers with rocks, bottles and fireworks late Saturday night in response to last week’s deadly police shooting of motorist and school worker, Castile. The St. Paul Police Department is now labeling the incident a “riot.”
Back here at home…Indianapolis Metro Police are looking for two gunman after separate deadly shootings in the city. Late Sunday night, on the city’s north side. IMPD says they got a 911 call and found a man dead when they arrived in the 9000 block of Compton Street. Police aren’t releasing any other specifics. Also, an overnight shooting on Indy’s northeast side has claimed the life of a man in his early 30’s early Monday morning. According to WTHR-TV, IMPD officers responded to the scene shortly after 1:30 a.m. They found the victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound in a yard near the 6200 block of Commodore Drive near 21st and Arlington. He was taken to Eskenazi Hospital, where he later died. If you have any info on either case, call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).

President Barack Obama will speak Tuesday at the memorial for those five slain Dallas police officers ambushed at the end of a peaceful protest rally last week. The White House says the President will be joined by Vice President Joe Biden, as well as former President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush.
The number of officers hurt during last week’s police shooting in Dallas is rising. El Centro College officials say two of their cops suffered injuries last Thursday when Micah Johnson ambushed police following the protest in downtown. Corporal Bryan Shaw had bullet fragments lodge in his stomach, while Officer John Abbott suffered cuts from shattered glass. Both are expected to be okay, but Shaw will have to have surgery. This brings the total of persons shot to 14. The number includes 13 officers shot, with five of them killed and one civilian who was shot in the leg.
Testimony resumes today in the case of Lieutenant Brian Rice, the fourth Baltimore police officer to stand trial in the arrest and death of Freddie Gray. Witnesses who took the stand last week for the state included a neurosurgeon who testified about the deadly injuries suffered by Gray after officers failed to seat-belt him in a police van. A detective who investigated after Gray died also took the stand. So far, prosecutors have presented much of the same evidence that led to two acquittals and a hung jury in three previous trials.

Lin-Manuel Miranda’s run on the hit Broadway show “Hamilton” is over. Miranda took his final bow during Saturday’s show. He told NBC’s “Today” show this morning that the final show was it was magical and an incredible evening with friends and family both in the audience and on-stage. Miranda is the creator of the landmark musical that won eleven Tony Awards last month. Some tickets for the performance reportedly sold for more than $40,000 a pair. Why is Miranda exiting? To go on to he next. He’s leaving the show to do other projects, including a new Disney movie, “Mary Poppins Returns.” He was joined on the morning show by Jennifer Lopez performing their new song “Love Make the World Go Round” in honor of the victims of last month’s Orlando massacre.
