Today is the 48^th anniversary of the assassination of Senator Robert Kennedy. The Kennedy King Memorial Initiative invites the community to join them at 12 Noon today at the site of the Kennedy-King memorial, located in King Park at 17^th and Broadway Street in Indianapolis to remember Kennedy’s life and his impact on this city. It was just over eight weeks prior to Kennedy’s assassination on June 6, 1968, that he was here on his presidential campaign stop. On that April 4th evening Kennedy learned that Reverend Martin Luther King Junior had been shot in Memphis Tennessee and later died. Against advice to cancel the appearance, he addressed the crowd that had gathered in urban Indy, before a large black crowd and broke the news about King’s assassination. He talked earnestly and made a call for peace in a speech has gone down in history, ranked as being one of the greatest of the modern era.

Another of the world’s greatest orators, boxing legend and humanitarian, Muhammad Ali died Friday night at the age of 74 in a hospital in the Phoenix, Arizona area. Known as “The Greatest,” he’d been battling Parkinson’s disease for over 30 years. His official cause of death has been revealed as septic shock due to unspecified natural causes. Ali’s body arrived in his hometown of Louisville –just a couple of hours south of Indy– on Sunday afternoon in prep for the Champ’s memorial services. A private one with family will be held on Thursday and a public one will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at the KFC Yum! Center followed by a 17-mile procession to at Cave Hill Cemetery for a private burial. Former President Bill Clinton will deliver the eulogy. News and sports journalist Bryant Gumbel and comedic actor Billy Crystal will also speak.

Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department are teaming up again this summer to feed the city’s hungry and most vulnerable. WRTV-6 is reporting the CARE Mobile Food Pantry is beginning services starting today through August 27. There are six distribution centers with plenty of volunteers from the city’s emergency crews that will be open to the public. Organizes ask that you bring your own bags to take the food home.  Mt. Zion Apostolic Church, in the 49 hundred block of E. 38th St. kicks off the summer Mondays from 4 to 6 p.m. this afternoon. No ID will be required. Here’s the complete list of pantry locations:

• Mondays – 4-6 p.m. — Mt. Zion Apostolic Church, 4900 E. 38th St. (will be closed July 4)
• Tuesdays – 4-6 p.m. — Kroger Parking lot, 2630 W. Michigan St. (across from IMPD Southwest District HQ)
• Wednesdays – 4-6 p.m. — Eastside Community Baptist Church, 438 Wallace Ave.
• Thursdays – 4-6 p.m. — Christ Our King Church, 2701 N. California St.
• Saturdays – 10 a.m. -12 p.m. — Trinity Episcopal Church, 3243 N. Meridian St.
• Saturdays – 10 a.m. -12 p.m. — Fervent Prayer Church, 10512 E. 38th St.

Friends and family in Valparaiso are mourning the death of Mitchell Winey. He died with eight other soldiers in what’s being called a training accident. Winey was attending West Point but was on duty with the soldiers. Governor Pence ordered flags across the state to be flown at half staff until Winey’s funeral.

The family of a Cumberland boy who was shot and killed believes his death was an accident. Anthony Harmon Junior was killed in the eastern bedroom community near Indy about a week ago. His death has been ruled a homicide. Anthony’s family thinks he was accidentally shot by another child and are worried that child may be brought up on charges.

Prosecutors are expected to file charges later today for a man who sped away from police and left a seriously injured passenger behind. IMPD officers say Christopher Glassel not only sped away from a weekend traffic stop, he ran from police after he crashed his car. Police say Glassel also left a seriously injured woman behind in his crashed car.

Just days after President Obama called Elkhart an example of a town that’s come back from the recession, a local electronics manufacturer says it’s eliminating over 200 jobs. CTS says it’s going to stop production at its Elkhart plant and eliminate 230 jobs by 2018. The company says it will still have a research and development team. Workers found out late last week.

Donald Trump believes Muslim judges might be biased against him. The likely GOP presidential nominee made the statement on CBS’ “Face the Nation” Sunday. Trump has already said that a federal judge overseeing a lawsuit against Trump University can’t be impartial because he has Mexican heritage. Judge Gonzalo Curiel has Mexican-born parents but was born right here, in Indiana.

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders took a swipe at Trump on the campaign trail leading up to the prized California primary. Sanders praised the late boxer Muhammad Ali particularly for his life of human rights work and taking a stand when it was difficult and unpopular, then said of Trump, “Don’t tell us how much you love Muhammad Ali and yet you’re going to be prejudiced against Muslims in this country.” The likely Republican presidential nominee, Trump, has proposed a ban on Muslims entering the U.S.  Sanders noted that Ali was a proud Muslim.

Authorities in Cincinnati are expected to announce today whether the family of a boy who climbed into a gorilla exhibit at a zoo will face charges.  Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters will hold a press conference to announce the decision.  The three-year-old fell into the enclosure late last month and was dragged around by a 450-pound silverback gorilla named Harambe.  A response team fatally shot the endangered animal, sparking outage and drawing worldwide attention.  The child’s mother says she was momentarily distracted and lost track of the boy.
