The pastor at one Indianapolis church says they’re trying to do anything they can to help the family of one of the men killed in the city’s “purge killing'” spree. Father Paul Kotter with Holy Spirit Catholic Church says they’re raising money for Jose Ruiz’s family. Police say Ruiz is one of the victims of that four-day killing spree last month. Kotter says Ruiz was the sole bread-winner in his family.

Meanwhile, the girlfriend of the man accused of going on the four-day killing spree says he’s wild, but not evil. Johnathan Cruz was arrested this week after investigators linked him to a string of murders between May 12 and May 15. After his initial court appearance Thursday, Cruz’s girlfriend told WRTV-6 Television he’s “fun, not violent.” Court documents indicate that Cruz told a witness that he had been “purging.” That term is a reference to the 2013 horror film called “The Purge” starring Ethan Hawke, in which the government designates a 12-hour period once a year where all crimes are legal.

Governor Mike Pence says he now wants that $80-million in federal cash for pre-schools across the state. Pence turned down the federal money two years ago. The governor sent a letter to the U.S. Health and Human Services’ secretary on Thursday asking for a second chance. At the same time, Pence is defending his 2014 decision not to take the money. He says he didn’t prematurely expand Indiana’s pre-school programs.

The shooting death of a ten-year-old Cumberland boy is now being investigated as a murder. Police say Anthony Harmon Junior was shot in the head on May 27. Cumberland Police Chief Michael Crooke is expected to meet with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office today to discuss the case. Police say no adults were home at the time of the shooting.

One person is dead following a SWAT standoff on Indy’s northeast side. Indianapolis Metro Police say officers were called to a home near 36th and Denny Streets Thursday afternoon. There, they noticed the house was damaged by what appeared to be gunfire. After officers made contact with the person inside, they tried to enter, but heard a gunshot and retreated. Their next move was to call SWAT.  SWAT later found the person dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Twice as many Americans say Hillary Clinton has the experience necessary to be President, compared to Donald Trump.  The latest Gallup Poll, out today, finds 62-percent of people surveyed say the former Secretary of State and Democratic front-runner has the experience a President needs. Only Thirty-one percent say likely Republican nominee Trump has the right experience. Clinton also beat out Trump on showing “good judgment in a crisis.

Speaking of crisis and Trump…Police say protesters outside a Donald Trump rally attacked people who support the Republican presidential candidate. The violence in San Jose, California Thursday night included protesters fighting with Trump supporters, burning their hats and tearing up Trump banners.
