During Women’s History Month, Karen Vaughn will spotlight the great women history-makers in Indiana.

Julie Carson served nearly 2 decades in the Indiana legislature, before being elected to the U.S. House in 1996. Representative Carson was the first African American and woman to represent the Indiana state capital. Representative Carson fought for the working class and children diligently.

She was appointed and served on several congressional committees during her time in congress. These committees ranged from, Financial Services Committee to Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. Even though Indiana lost Representative Carson in 2007, she has left a lasting legacy here and across the country.
