The Pope Blasts Trump’s Stance On Immigration: ‘He’s Not Christian’

Pope Francis recently prayed at the U.S./Mexican border where he paid tribute to migrants who had died trying to cross the Rio Grande. Following his six-day trip in Mexico, he was asked his thoughts on Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump who proposed building an expansive wall between the U.S and Mexico because according to the billionaire mogul, the country tends to send over “rapists” and “criminals”. Francis said, “A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian.” Trump had previously expressed his admiration for the Pope but upon hearing Francis’ criticism, he released a defensive statement, “For a religious leader to question a person’s faith is disgraceful.” Trump also released a separate statement saying that if the Vatican were to be attacked by terrorists, “the Pope would have only wished and prayed that Donald Trump would have been President because this would not have happened. ISIS would have been eradicated unlike what is happening now with our all talk, no action politicians.” CNN

Kraft, Whole Foods & Walmart May Be Sneaking Wood Into Your Food

The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has found that multiple brands package their shredded cheese products with cellulose, an anti-clumping agent made from wood pulp. Executives from the former Parmesan cheese company Castle Cheese, which supplied to retailers including Target, are scheduled to plead guilty to misrepresenting that their product contained 100% Parmesan when in actuality there’s been no real cheese in their bags over the past 30 years. Their sentence could include up to one year in prison and $100,000 fine. Apparently it’s legal for shredded cheese product to contain up to 4% of cellulose. Kraft cheese contained 3.8% cellulose, Walmart’s Great Value 100% Grated Parmesan Cheese had 7.8% and Whole Foods 365 Parmesan had 0.3%, though it does not at all list cellulose as an ingredient. Mashable

Man Gets Life In Jail For Murdering Crossing Guard

Former P.S. 100 Crossing Guard, Elzina Brown was beloved by her Bronx community. The 59-year-old had her life tragically taken from her when she was murdered by the father of her granddaughter. On January 3, 2013 Raymond Mayrant shot Diamond Dunn, the mother of his 4-year-old daughter three times in the face, but she survived. Supposedly Mayrant was in a jealous rage over being separated from his daughter. He also shot Brown who succumb to her injuries. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the murder and attempted murder. Mayrant spoke briefly at the sentencing to say he maintained his innocence, but added that he was sorry for what had happened. As Supreme Court Justice Alvin Yearwood rendered his verdict, he told Mayrant, “I could not find a single thing redeeming about you.” NY Daily News

FBI Battles With Apple And Social Media Sites Over Users Privacy

Last December, a health inspector named Syed Farook became known as “The San Bernardino Shooter” who killed 14 people during a holiday party. The FBI is still investigating the case and they want to search through Farook’s iPhone. Apple initially denied the request to hack into the deceased phone and a judge has since ordered the company to do so. CEO Tim Cook plans to appeal the decision. The case has created a fire storm within tech companies such as Google and across social media platforms including Facebook and Twitter who are trying to tread lightly with the government but at the same time stand up for users rights. Cook released a statement via a series of tweets, “Forcing companies to enable hacking could compromise users’ privacy…We know that law enforcement and intelligence agencies face significant challenges in protecting the public against crime and terrorism…We build secure products to keep your information safe and we give law enforcement access to data based on valid legal orders…But that’s wholly different than requiring companies to enable hacking of customer devices & data. Could be a troubling precedent.” Mashable
