Two of the late James Brown’s children have written books that paint the legendary Godfather of Soul and some of his associates in a less than flattering light. HollywoodReporter.com says daughter Yamma Brown accuses her father of domestic abuse. In “Cold Sweat: My Father James Brown and Me,” she describes in graphic detail memories of the singer savagely beating her mother and the fear it instilled in her. She also opens up about her own abusive marriage, and the beating that sparked her moment of clarity and the courage to leave.
Meanwhile, Brown’s son Daryl is claiming his father was murdered. He admits he has no proof to back up his allegation. But he writes in “Inside The Godfather” that he has “a gut feeling” James “was killed” by someone close to him. Daryl also alleges — without any supporting evidence — that the 2008 shooting that left Yamma’s ex-husband dead was related to James’ death, and that his uncle Teddy Brown’s fatal 1973 car crash was no accident. Both of the recently published books have received mixed reviews and drawn questions about their accuracy.
