August 9 marks what would have been the 50th birthday of music icon, Whitney Houston.

“Nippy” was born 50 years ago today in Newark, New Jersey, later becoming one of our most celebrated singers in history. Whitney released six albums and one holiday album, earning her six Grammy awards for her work before her death in 2012.
