Issa Rae is definitely on her way to becoming one of Hollywood’s most versatile and well-known faces.
The “Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl” creator is set to play Nina Simone in the upcoming biopic for Raisin in the Sun playwright Lorraine Hansberry.
According to Shadow & Act, Rae will take on the role of Simone, who was not only a successful jazz singer, but one of Hansberry’s closest friends at the time of her death.
Other stars in the project include Jaleel White as James Baldwin, and Taye Hansberry as Lorraine Hansberry.
Rae is a busy women theses days. Along with her first movie role, she’s keeping up with her successful web series and preparing for the summer premiere of her new talk show on Magic Johnson’s Aspire Network.
