With limited depictions of blacks on-screen and behind the camera, the New Voices in Black Cinema festival seeks to highlight narrative features, documentaries, and shorts “that redefine the black experience in America and around the world.” The Brooklyn based ActNow Foundation presents the third annual New Voices in Black Cinema festival in association with BAMcinématek, beginning tonight at the Brooklyn American Museum.

“People tell us all the time ‘I heard about that film’ but they somehow missed it. New Voices in Black Cinema is a birth and re-birth for a lot of these films about and by people of color,” says Curtis Caesar John, New Voices in Black Cinema Director and head of film programming for ActNow Foundation.

Among the selected films that will be shown is the standout religious story–”The Undershepherd”– a church bred movie about the controversy and greed of one “man of God.” The Russ Parr-directed production stars Isiah Washington, Lamman Rucker, Malinda Williams and Vanessa Bell Calloway.
