With the weather being as hot as it is,The all-American summer cookout can bring the danger of food poisoning along with all the fun.  Dr. Rajal Mody of the U.S. Public Health service says it’s important to know if the burger you’re eating has been thoroughly cooked.  Mody says the color of the cooked burger won’t be a clue to safety.  The doctor points out that the only way to be sure about burger safety is to use a food thermometer.  He points out that one out of every six Americans will be hit by food poisoning every year and offers tips on avoiding the illness.  Besides using a food thermometer, Mody says it’s important to follow other basic rules in food preparation.  That means keeping preparation areas clean, using different utensils for cooked and raw food and chilling cooked items promptly.
