When I was 9 years old, I was bullied by 3 girls, that for reasons I still don’t know just didn’t like me. They would call me names and threaten me constantly. This went on for about 6 weeks. I never told anybody, including my Mother, that I was being bullied. I will never forget being scared to go to school. Then one day I just decided I had had enough. The next time one of them bothered me I was going to fight back. All 3 of the girls approached me in the bathroom and started in on me with the name calling and pushing. Something inside me snapped and I just started swinging. Make no mistake, I didn’t win the fight, it was 3 of them and 1 of me, but the fact that I stood up for myself and went blow for blow with them, got me tagged as “Krazy Khris”. No one bothered me again and I was glad. I did get suspended for fighting, my Mom put me on punishment for 3 weeks, but looking back , I felt I had no choice. I know that my story is not that much different from thousands of others. Unfortunately, young Jasmine may have felt that taking her own life was the only way out for her.
As a Mother, I can’t begin to imagine what the parents of 10 year old Jasmine, must be going through. I can only say that my heart and prayers goes out to them. read more
