I rarely watch Simon Cowell’s “The X-Factor.” Though I am reluctant to watch another “American Idol” type show, millions of others have clung to the talent competition like it is the next best thing since sliced bread. I do admit, one performer/performance did win me over. Too bad it wasn’t him that showed his black a** last night on national TV. Instead, it was 15 year-old Astro, who after being placed in the “bottom two” said: ““No disrespect to you or this show but I just feel like if you’re gonna put me in the bottom two, I don’t want to perform for people who don’t want me here.”

Sounds like someone has been watching and listening to Kanye West too much! Simon immediately responded “You’re showing disrespect to your mom, you’re showing disrespect to the audience at home.

Part of doing this is being a grown-up, you know what the rules are.”

I sigh. Another moment on television where black people have to make ourselves seem arrogant, ungrateful and simply rude. I hate to think that every sentiment for the rest of my natural black life will be critiqued and compared to certain stereotypes, however I do understand how important it is to be mindful of how I portray my race. I am a walking billboard whether I like it or not! I am sorry to be the one to announce that one black individual represents more than one black individual.

To see Astro, a young black male who raps (stereotype) talk to a well established entrepreneur like he was Jay-Z in some previous life was just disturbing.

I think Astro’s votes just plummeted…
