The hit Broadway musical, “Fela!” produced by Jay-Z and Will Smith is being sued by a New York photographer who claims her images were used in the play without her consent.

Marilyn Nance, the photographer, is seeking $150,000 for her iconic photo of Fela Kuti’s nightclub in Nigeria. Theboombox.com reports that according to the lawsuit, the 1977 photo of Kuti’s Africa Shrine club also appears in several souvenirs including books, CDs and a music video.

Nance’s lawyer, Edward Greenberg, says the show’s producers were notified of the problem last month, but have not made any swift moves to remedy the situation.

“Fela!” spokesperson Richard Kornberg released a statement:

“We tried to resolve the claim but could not, and are now in the process of replacing that image,” Kornberg said. “Unfortunately, this photographer waited two years to voice an objection to our use of this image. Had she notified us earlier, we would’ve replaced it then.”

A Brooklyn-based photographer is suing “FELA! on Broadway” for allegedly ripping off a picture that features prominently in the Tony-award winning musical.

Marilyn Nance says her shot of the late musician Fela Kuti’s Nigerian nightclub is being used without permission as part of the production design for the critically acclaimed hit show.

Nance’s Manhattan federal court suit — which seeks $150,000-plus in damages for copyright infringement — alleges that her photo is projected “onto or above” the stage and “effectively serves as the backdrop for the FELA! set.” She claims that the image was displayed during 40 percent of the June 27 performance of FELA!, including the entire 16-minute intermission.

Also, she claims the photo appears in the show’s $10 souvenir program book with a bogus attribution to “Monique Carboni,” as well as in the booklet for the $25 original cast recording CD and a promotional music video, the suit alleges.

FELA! publicist Richard Kornberg called Nance’s suit “without merit,” noting that her shot is of a “public building in Lagos, Nigeria.” READ MORE HERE!

Stylist Mariel Haenn tells HollywoodLife.com,

“Willow is definitely inspired by Rihanna’s style. We make an effort to give Willow her own style, so as not to be a mini-version of Rihanna, but Willow really knows what she likes and what she doesn’t like, and she’s vocal about it.”

There are already talks of a clothing line for Will Smith’s nine-year-old daughter and her actor brother Jaden Smith.

“With Rihanna, pretty soon after she came on the scene, you started seeing designers from Forever 21 to Gucci coming out with styles mimicking her look. We hope the same thing happens here, but I think the ultimate goal is for Willow and Jaden to have their own line.”
