R&B/Gospel Singer David Peaston Dies At 54.

R&B Singer David Peaston has died at the age of 54. There are no details available, but according to postings his Facebook page, he passed away on Wednesday.

He had dealt with complications from diabetes, having both his legs amputated in later years and some social media sites are stirring with speculation that diabetes may have led to his passing.

He began singing as a second career after being a schoolteacher. He came to prominence after winning several times on the ‘Showtime At The Apollo’ amateur competition. His rendition of ‘God Bless The Child’ won over the legendarily tough Apollo crowd several times over, leading to him getting a record deal, releasing two albums, and even winning the Soul Train Award in 1990 for ‘Best New R&B/Soul or Rap New Artist’.

He leaves behind a wife and two children.

Jill Scott’s lawsuits with Hidden Beach Records have finally been settled.

According to reports, the record company initiated the lawsuit against the artist for apparently failing to fulfill her release obligations. But instead of backing down, Scott countersued.

The details of the case were kept private, but the issues have been resolved.

So what does that mean for us? Possibly a new album. We shall see what the deal with be, but in the meantime, we know she’s going to be at the 2011 Essence Music Festival.

Dang, this is a real bummer to have to report. And it’s something quite frankly we were afraid would or could happen and it did happen.

After crafting a dynamic comeback album called “Second Chance,” El DeBarge has fallen off the sobriety wagon.

The singer, whose history with substance abuse has long been documented, has voluntarily checked himself back into a rehabilitation facility to seek treatment for an assumed relapse.

“I hate to disappoint my fans but it is necessary for me to take the time to work on me so that I may continue to share my music and mystory with everyone,” said the singer in a statement. “I thank everyone in advance for their prayers and well wishes and hope that you will respect my privacy during this time.”

The 49-year-old has been battling drug abuse for the past decade. In 2001, he was arrested for cocaine possession, and was again detained in 2006 for possession of a controlled substance.

Sadly DeBarge was set to tour with headlining act KEM and opener Ledisi starting this Thursday, but was replaced by Musiq (Soulchild) on Monday.

“Second Chance” was released to critical acclaim last November.
