There is no question that the voices of celebrities can make a big impact for political campaigns. Stars come out of the woodwork to support their candidates and causes during election time.

President Barack Obama is fully aware of the power of the celebrity endorsements. A list of ‘confirmed and passed surrogates’ was leaked online. While it is nothing that should stir controversy, it is interesting to see the people that President Obama and his staff align themselves with and choose to spread the word of his campaign. Names include Hollywood heavyweights like Oprah Winfrey and George Clooney, amongst many many others…

Oprah And Farrakhan Visit Haiti On Separate Trips

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) — Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan started a five-day trip to Haiti on Sunday, arriving just ahead of fellow Chicagoan Oprah Winfrey as they make separate trips to the poor Caribbean country.

Farrakhan told reporters at the airport that he will be exploring ways his organization can help Haiti rebuild from the devastating 2010 earthquake.

He said he intends to “listen, learn and share,” and is particularly interested in learning more about Voodoo, the religion widely practiced in the country.

“I have longed throughout my life to set my foot in the sacred soil of Haiti,” Farrakhan said.

Haitian Foreign Minister Laurent Lamorthe greeted Farrakhan at the airport, and the Nation of Islam leader was expected to meet later in the week with President Michel Martelly.

Authorities hustled the journalists out of the airport after the news conference so they could not cover Winfrey’s arrival.

Winfrey was expected to visit a settlement camp for displaced people run by Hollywood actor Sean Penn and his aid group J/P HRO on Monday. She was also expected to meet with fashion designer Donna Karan, who has celebrated the work of Haiti’s artisans through her Urban Zen Foundation since the quake.

Martelly has said he would meet with Winfrey on Monday. He said he hopes she will serve as a goodwill ambassador for Haiti and help bring aid to the country.

Oprah Winfrey, having largely geared her brand towards Middle-American white women over the course of her rising career, is now working to regain her Black audience.

Struggling to attract a large viewership nearly eleven months since her fledgling OWN network premiered, Winfrey, the network executives, is switching up her game plan, acknowledging that she is going after black audiences.

Though it’s nice to know that we’ll be getting more shows out of Ms. Oprah, it’s hard not to harbor some resentment at being her ugly-duckling-turned-swan, reckoning Winfrey’s sudden change of heart with virtually being ignored for years.

Haitian President Michel Martelly will host Oprah Winfrey when she visits the Caribbean nation.

Martelly tells The Associated Press that he hopes Winfrey will serve as an ambassador for Haiti. He says he would like her to help Haiti get more assistance for rebuilding from the 2010 earthquake that displaced hundreds of thousands of people.

Winfrey is expected to arrive in Haiti on Sunday. She is to visit a settlement camp run by Hollywood actor Sean Penn’s aid group J-P HRO.

Martelly said he will meet with her on Monday.

The president made the announcement Friday while in Trinidad for a trade summit with Caribbean leaders.

This entire situation is just to funny to me. Wendy Williams is soooo good at what she does!!! When it was announced that Gayle King was leaving the OWN Network, which is owned by her “Bestie” Oprah, everybody in media was talking about it and spectulating on what the real reason was… EVEN MOI!!!

The fact that Gayle responded to Wendy and no one esle says something to me about how how power Wendy’s word is… I’m just saying….

Now that Oprah Winfrey’s BFF, Gayle King, is leaving Oprah’s struggling OWN network for her own show on CBS, I’m hearing that Oprah is devastated.

A distraught Oprah allegedly begged her bestie not to abandon her OWN network and was reduced to tears when Gayle turned her back and walked out the door, sources told The ENQUIRER:

“Oprah is terribly hurt that Gayle could be so ungrateful,” a source revealed. “She begged Gayle not to go, but Gayle said she just couldn’t pass up the opportunity of a lifetime.

“And I think she stunned Oprah when she kept saying, ‘It’s a major network!’ ”

Despite her personal grief, Oprah is putting on a happy public face when discussing Gayle’s departure.

Even Gayle knows it’s time to jump ship…This OWN network is not going to go the distance, Oprah really needs to step her game up and give folks what they want.

Housewives rejoice! Oprah Winfrey makes her return to television with the launch of her new series “Oprah’s Next Chapter.” Before her talk show went off the air, Oprah revealed she would be returning to TV with a show that would take her to different places outside of a studio.

Oprah said:
“After 25 years I got myself out of the studio chairs. I moved into the next chapter, and I am having more fun than ever – moving around the country and the world talking to people I’m really interested in getting to know and I think viewers will be, too,” said Winfrey. “It is so energizing to be out and about in the world exploring new people, new places and new ideas.

“I sat at the dinner table with a Hasidic Jewish family and tried to explain to the children who have never seen a television what TV is…can you imagine? I fire-walked with Tony Robbins—never pictured myself doing that! I celebrated the power of God and community with Joel Osteen and I’m planning a trip with Deepak Chopra to India where I’ve never been,” Winfrey added.

Oprah Winfrey will be the recipient of an Academy Award this year, and no it’s not a retrograde honor for her role in Steven Spielberg’s adaption of “The Color Purple.” Ms. Winfrey will be awarded the 2011 Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. This is an honorary award given to someone whose philanthropic work benefit the film industry.

Oprah told Essence.com,”I was surprised because I am not known as an actress. I’ve done film and I love the films that I’ve done.”
