Nominations for the 69th Golden Globe Awards were announced this morning with leading nominees including Viola Davis (The Help), Idris Elba (Luther). As expected, The Help swept the nominations field with a total of five nods, including Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture Drama nominations for Octavia Spencer and Jessica Chastain. The Help is also nominated for Best Motion Picture – Drama.

Idris Elba was nominated for a second year in a row for his role in the hit BBC series Luther. You can find the complete list of nominees at the Golden Globes official website.

British actor, Idris Elba has allegedly been tapped to play the role of Nelson Mandela in the “official” biopic of the former South African leader. It is reported via an undisclosed but reliable source that the deal is currently being sealed!

Idris rose to fame on the HBO series ‘The Wire’ for his character Stringer Bell. This is a great look for the thespian!

Idris Elba covers Essence magazine’s November 2011 issue and inside, he takes off his usual photo shoot suit and gets comfy in casual wear while playing chess, laying back in his living room, and walking the city streets.

On his 9-year-old daughter Isan:
“She’s a nerd really, which I couldn’t be more grateful for. She’s not much impressed with what I do, but she does see how people react to me in the streets.”

On his career:
“I think what audiences expect of me is to act my ass off, and that’s great, because that’s what I do, that’s what I love doing.”

Our favorite chocolate boy wonder Idris Elba who is one of the most sought after black actors and the most recent face of SmartWater, recently released his official video for his first single, ‘Private Garden.” The video which was shot in San Juan, Puerto Rico features Idris singing that he hopes his special woman would let her guard down and “let this brotha enter”, promising that he won’t hurt her. Idris also drops a few bars at the end.

We are huge fans of Idris, but we’d rather him stick to acting! Please don’t be mad at us Idris, we love you!!

Idris Elba is Smartwater’s new (sexy) spokesman. We’ve seen Jennifer Aniston front the campaign since 2007, so we’re happy to see the company moved in a new direction.

Aniston went topless and showed off her abs in a few of the ads, so we can only hope Idris does the same! But for now, we’ll have to settle for a few fully-clothed pics of a business man on the move.

Idris Elba’s naked body has long been a dream of ours to see. And though we can’t see it in it’s entirety, Idris did post a shirtless picture of himself on Twitter yesterday.

We’re wondering, though, was this pic posted by mistake? After sending it into the Twitterverse, he followed up with the message: “Dammmmm too late!! Its gone…”

Looks like Hollywood’s “white out” is on hiatus–at least in TV Land. This morning the nominations for the 63rd Annual Emmys were announced and Black Hollywood is finally feeling the love. Taraji P. Henson got a nod in the “Best Actress in a Mini-Series Or Movie” category for Lifetime’s ” Taken From Me: The Tiffany Ruben Story.” Idris Elba and Laurence Fishburne will face off in the “Best Actor in a Miniseries or Movie” arena–Elba for BBC crime procedural “LUTHER”, Fishburne for HBO’s “Thurgood” (based on the life of the first black supreme court justice Thurgood Marshall). Andre Braugher (“Men of A Certain Age”), Sofia Vergara (“Modern Family”), and Archie Punjabi (“The Good Wife”) also round out the Emmy’s diverse spectrum of nominees.

Congratulations are in order for Idris Elba, Taraji P. Henson and Laurence Fishburne who were just nominated for 2011 Emmy Awards.

The three actors received nods during the nominations telecast this morning.

Taraji is nominated for Best Actress in a Mini-Series or TV movie for “Taken from Me: The Tiffany Rubin Story,” while Idris Elba and Laurence Fishburne are both nominated for Best Actor in a Miniseries; Elba for his BBC America drama, “Luther,” and Fishburne for “Thurgood,” the HBO film about civil rights icon Thurgood Marshall. Veteran actor Andre Braugher is also up for Supporting Actor In A Drama Series for “Men of a Certain Age.”

The Emmy Awards are scheduled to air September 18th on Fox.

The 2011 Golden Globe nominations were just announced on NBC. Halle Berry and Idris Elba are both up for awards. Halle could win Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama for her role in “Frankie & Alice.”Idris is nominated for Best Actor in a Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television for his role in “Luther.”

The Golden Globe Awards are one of the official precursors to the Academy Awards. The Golden Globes are given to all forms of media in both domestic and foreign categories, while Academy Awards are given only to motion pictures (including both documentary & animation feature films).

Halle will be up against Nicole Kidman, Natalie Portman, Michelle Williams and Jennifer Lawrence, while Idris will be up against Al Pacino, Dennis Quaid, Edgar Ramirez, and Ian McShane.
