I really wanted one of those cheap mask costumes that tore up and was cracked by the end of the day. You know the ones you would sweat in and couldn’t hardly breathe in. But noooo, my mom had to make mine that year!

I must mention that I did get ” Honorable Mention”.  I guess that’s not so bad. I am surprised I didn’t do better now that I look at some of the other costumes in the picture! LOL!

There’s a T-shirt which is creating a ruckus. It’s yellow, and  emblazoned on the front is, “Pray for Obama” and underneath, “Psalm 109:8.”  The actual line in Psalm 109:8 states, “Let his days be few; and let another take his office.”  A hope that Obama gets voted out of office, or something more sinister?  

A company called Zazzle was purportedly selling this particular t-shirt, but no longer. This statement was released on Wednesday:

“…it is only after great thought that we have determined that these products, in the context of the full text of Psalm 109, may be interpreted in such a way as to suggest physical harm to the President of the United States. In deference to the Office of the President of the United States, and in accordance with federal law prohibiting the making of threats against the physical wellbeing of the President of the United States, Zazzle has therefore determined that these products are in violation of the Zazzle User Agreement and not appropriate for inclusion in the Zazzle Marketplace.”

Another company called Cafepress has also stopped selling shirts that say the same thing.
Supporters of the President are up in arms, and declaring that the t-shirt is an exhortation on the part of Christian Conservatives to cause grievous harm to the President. While the actual passage in Psalm 109:8 reads, “Let his days be few; and let another take his office” the rest of the psalm is an entreaty to God to ruin the supplicant’s enemy, to “Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow” (the next line.) Clearly, it could be interpreted that some who buy and wear the t-shirt want President Obama deeply incapacitated, to put it mildly. However, other commentators have countered that it’s taking Psalm 109 out of context; all 109:8 declares, they say, is that those who are opposed to the President wish him to not be re-elected. That’s all. There’s no murderous intent, nor are they praying for lethal divine wrath to be visited upon Obama or his family.

Now, the actual psalm itself, read as a whole, is a lament against an oppressive and wicked time; it is also a call by David to bring down righteous vengeance upon his transgressor. But not just to smite down; the oppressor’s familial lineage must also be exterminated, and his deeds stricken from the public records. Taken in literal form, this was part of the no-holds-barred approach in the dog eat dog world that was the ancient Holy Land. It’s tribalism in the purest form, and utter destruction of an enemy was paramount if you wanted to survive. Which brings us back to the t-shirt’s original intent. Is the t-shirt, the fridge magnet, and the bumper sticker (all of which list “109:8”) code for “we hate Barack Obama and hope God or someone does grievous injury to him?” Or was it simply quoting that single line, “Let his days be few; and let another take his office” as a simple statement of political dissatisfaction? Which, by the way, is free speech protected by the First Amendment. When it’s a provable exhortation to violence, then it becomes hate speech.

The only person who could truthfully address the intent is the designer of the offending apparel and the other brickabrack. And if his or her purpose was to maliciously incite the more homicidally inclined amongst the Christian community, then that’s a matter to be settled between the t-shirt designer and God. And the Secret Service. Apparently, they take a dim view of threats (implied or otherwise) against the President of the United States

According to the Live Feed, Oprah’ssit down with Sarah Palin on Monday earned an impressive 8.7 rating, making it ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show”s highest-rated show in two years. That tops a 2007 interview, in which Oprah interviewed the entire Osmond family.

Palin — who appeared on the show to promote her new memoir ‘Going Rogue: An American Life’ — even ousted the much-touted, two-part season premiere interview with Whitney Houston.

The high viewership was likely fueled by speculation that Oprah had initially snubbed Palin from appearing on her show, a claim that was swiftly denied by both women on Monday’s broadcast. That it was Palin’s first interview about her memoir probably didn’t hurt, either.

Although the interview started with a hug, it ended with a jab from Oprah, who candidly asked Palin whether she had any plans to star in her own talk show.

“Oprah you are the queen of talk shows. You have nothing to worry about,” she said.

But based on Monday’s ratings, Palin might want to reconsider

Growing up I remember my daddy always talking about some chick named Pam Grier. Didn’t know who she was, but I knew he liked her by the way he said her name . Well, when I got in college I went through my “Black Exploitation Movie” phase and I soon found out what the hype was all about concerning Ms. Brown. She was the sexy black female star of the ’70s and the men absolutely loved her. She starred in films like “Coffee” , “Foxy Brown” and “Sheba Baby”.

Well her latest project is on the 9th session of Smallville. She will play Amanda Waller.  Her character, created by writer John Ostrander is the leader of the “Suicide Squad”—a team of super villains forced to go on black ops missions for the government—Amanda Waller was nicknamed “The Wall” for her refusal to back down to anyone… even Batman.

Now I already told you about talks for Men In Black 3 and now execs are in talks for an Independence Day Trilogy.

2012 director Roland Emmerich is pondering a pair of follow-ups to his ’96 Alien hit Independence Day.

“What we want to do in the next – it’s actually two movies – we want to do a bigger arc,”  said Emmerich . “Independence Day was always like the king who leads his troops into battle against an evil force, and that stays like that.”

Last month Latino Review reported that Emmerich was chatting about the possibility of a sequel and that budget concerns –namely that of  Will Smith’s salary– was holding down production.

“Will is essential for us, for this movie and actually for the audience too. And, so, it’s in limbo and lately the studios are fighting,” Emmerich said on Fox asking him about the possibility of an Independence Day 2 without Smith. “Will is a gross player and is probably the only gross player right now who’s worth his gross. So we’ll see what happens. I would love to do it.”

2012 is out today in U.S. theaters.

Also featuring performances from Beyonce’s four night stint at the Wynn Las Vegas’ Encore Theater in Las Vegas, Nevada, “I AM… Yours” airs Thursday, November 26 at 9pm on ABC.

According to ESSENCE.com superstar singer Toni Braxton is separated from her husband Keri Lewis, formerly of Mint Condition, after 8 years of marriage. Braxton has sold 40 million albums worldwide and won six Grammy Awards.

Of course we don’t know why they have split up, some wonder if it has anything to do with huge KISS she gave Trey Songz, on stage at the taping of the Soul Train Awards. hmmmm!
