Joyner was born in Tuskegee, Alabama, and received a degree in sociology from Tuskegee Institute (now Tuskegee University). Joyner joined Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Tom began his broadcasting career in Montgomery, Alabama and worked at a number of radio stations in the American South, before moving to Chicago at WJPC (AM). In the mid-1980s, Joyner was simultaneously offered hosted to shows and commuted daily by plane between the two cities, earning the nicknames “The Fly Jock” and “The Hardest Working Man in Radio.” In 1994, Joyner became the host the nationally-syndicated program, The Tom Joyner Morning Show.

“First Lady” Khris Raye comes to Indianapolis’ WTLC-FM from Chicago, where she was the host of “Whispers In The Dark” on top-rated WGCI-FM. Born and raised on Chicago’s Southside, First Lady’s started her career over 26 years ago singing “House Music and working at WGCI-FM as the first female mixer on the radio in Chicago. Since that time, First Lady has done radio stints in New York, Milwaukee, and Michigan. She is also the receipant of the 2006 Billboard Hip Hop and R&B Radio Award APD/MD of the year for a large market. Currently, First Lady continues her duties as Afternoon On-air personality, Asst. Program Director and Music Director for the UAC WTLC-FM and has added the duties of Program Director of the 2010 Stellar and Dove Award winning Station of the Year gospel station AM1310 The Light WTLC-AM, she is the first woman to hold that position. She and her best friend/hubby Hugo have been together for 15 years and have 3 beautiful teenage daughters between them ages Khumare 20, Ciah 17 and Kristyn 15. Karen also serves as Program Director for WTLC-FM. Her  radio broadcasting expertise have earned her numerous honors and awards throughout her career. She has been honored as Assistant Program Director and Music Director of the Year from Billboard Magazine, Radio and Records Magazine and Gavin Magazine. Her Radio show has also been nominated for Urban Radio Personality/Show of the year, named on R&R Magazine’s “Women on the Rise” Top Ten list. Most recently Karen has been inducted in the Broadcaster’s Hall of Fame.
