Here’s one that you might hear us get in the mix on the weekends. We try to get in the crates to find the joints that make you move and groove for Friday night’s ‘Club 106.7′ and ‘The Saturday Night Basement Party’.

‘Ain’t Nothin’ Goin’ on But The Rent” was a bit controversial when the late Gwen Guthrie released it as a single in 1986. The song was controversial in that the woman in the song can be viewed as shallow and a “gold digger”, since she will only love a man if he’s rich and he has a job. Obviously, times have changed and these sentiments are no longer controversial nor shocking, but at the time, a few people were up in arms about the way the character in the song was portraying herself.

…and if you ask me…there is absolutely nothing wrong with expecting a brother to have a job.

1. Happy Birthday-Stevie Wonder. I love this song. They used to play it on the loudspeakers on every MLK day and elementary school.

Pride in the Name of Love-U2. I didn’t know this song was about King till the inaugural concert. Now that I do, it makes the song all the more powerful.

3. By The Time I Get to Arizona-Public Enemy. Chuck D’s militant charge for Arizona to honor MLK was a strike against racism and Arizona’s Senator, John McCain who opposed the holiday.

4. King Holiday-Various Artists. Whitney Houston, The Fatboys, Run DMC, and other artists combined for a We are The World style MLK tribute. Well intentioned, if a bit corny.

5. Common-I Have a Dream. By sampling King’s voice, Common and Will I Am show the wonderful musical and spiritual quality of King’s voice.

6. Ed OG and Masta Ace-Wishing

This song uses an excerpt from MLK’s “I Have Dream Speech” and was featured in the MLK episode of “The Boondocks” Great song embodying the spirit and politics of Martin Luther King.

Jennifer Hudson says she was shocked to find out that her image was digitally enhanced on her 2008 self-titled album.

“It’s like, where’s the rest of me?” she told “Dateline’s” Lester Holt in an interview that aired last night (Jan. 8). “They Photoshopped me probably to the size I am now on that cover, when we all know I was nowhere near that. Why would you Photoshop that?”

Hudson, a spokesperson for WeightWatchers , was on the show to promote her new memoir “I Got This,” about her transformation as she embraced a healthy lifestyle and lost over eighty pounds.

The book follows J-Hud’s meteoric rise from “American Idol” to “Dreamgirls” to her weight loss on the Weight Watchers diet plan. Jennifer gives her fans tips for embracing a healthy lifestyle in order to lose weight and reclaim their bodies.
