Alicia Keys Expanding Business Ventures

Singer-songwriter Alicia Keys has launched AK Worldwide, a new company that will handle her various projects, particularly those outside of the music business.

“It really explores the ways I can affect the world in a positive way, even outside of music,” Keys told the Associated Press Tuesday. “It is really about finding ways to bring forth things into the world that will give you and all the people that encounter them, and myself, inspiration.”

The first project for the 28-year-old is The Barber’s Daughters, a handcrafted jewelry line engraved with messages of hope and wisdom.

“The words, when you read them, they really do resonate with you. They kind of inspire you to want to find that place in yourself,” she said, sporting a silver oval ring that read: “May you find inspiration and meaning soaked in the wonders of the imagination cradled in compassion of the heart and hold a will to make difference.”

There are also plans for a new Web site, www.iamasuperwoman.com, devoted to spotlighting inspirational women and causes that will fill a missing gap in the blogosphere, Keys said.

“It really calls out to all those brilliant, amazing, fantastic women every day that are doing their thing and need kind of a community to support each other,” she said.

Her fourth studio CD, “The Element of Freedom,” is scheduled for release on Dec. 1.

“First Lady” Khris Raye comes to Indianapolis’ WTLC-FM from Chicago, where she was the host of “Whispers In The Dark” on top-rated WGCI-FM. Born and raised on Chicago’s Southside, First Lady’s started her career over 24 years ago singing “House Music and working at WGCI-FM as the first female mixer on the radio in Chicago. Since that time, First Lady has done radio stints in New York, Milwaukee, and Michigan. She is also the receipant of the 2006 Billboard Hip Hop and R&B Radio Award APD/MD of the year for a large market. Currently, First Lady continues her duties as Afternoon On-air personality, Asst. Joyner was born in Tuskegee, Alabama, and received a degree in sociology from Tuskegee Institute (now Tuskegee University). Joyner joined Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Tom began his broadcasting career in Montgomery, Alabama and worked at a number of radio stations in the American South, before moving to Chicago at WJPC (AM). In the mid-1980s, Joyner was simultaneously offered hosted to shows and commuted daily by plane between the two cities, earning the nicknames “The Fly Jock” and “The Hardest Working Man in Radio.” In 1994, Joyner became the host the nationally-syndicated program, The Tom Joyner Morning Show.

Kyle Street is straight from the Circle City!!! Born on the Westside, graduated from Northwest High School and went on to Tennessee State University. A member of the best band in the land, “The Aristocrat of Bands”, he came home to perform in the Circle City Classic. After Majoring in Mass Communications he returned home and eventually interned, at Hot 96dot3 and moved all way up to be on the Morning Show with Tony Lamont and Cindy Wine. He went on to become the Producer of the Russ Parr Morning Show and weekend air personality. Then Chicago came calling… He moved to the windy city to do weekends and fill-in at WGCI! Roaming the halls where Tom Joyner and Doug Banks worked, was priceless. Working with likes of “First Lady” Kris Raye, “CHI-Town” taught him a lot. He now has come full circle, not only back to his home town, but to the station he grew up listening to!!! Blessed to continue his radio career with legends in broadcasting and to create a small legacy of his own. Remember: STOP STRESSIN, ACCEPT THE LESSONS AS WELL AS THE BLESSINS!!!
