Many in the sports world reacted to the news in Ferguson, Missouri Monday night. After it was announced that no charges would be filed against Police Officer Darren Wilson in the fatal shooting of Michael Brown, dozens of sports stars took to their social media accounts to share their thoughts. Via his Instagram account, LeBron James said, quote, “As a society how do we do better and stop things like this happening time after time!! I’m so sorry to these families. Violence is not the answer people. Retaliation isn’t the solution as well.” James’ quote was accompanied by a cartoon image of Brown and Trayvon Martin arm-in-arm.
Some used social media to express their outrage over the decision, including New York Jets defensive end Sheldon Richardson. Following Monday night’s loss to the Jets, Richardson Tweeted “they let this pig get off” from his verified account. Richardson added “as a black Man U must b crazy if u think I’m ok with this verdict”.
