A new survey is suggesting holiday shoppers skip the trip to the toy store this year. Conducted by UPromise for the student loan company Sallie Mae, the poll finds that more than 70 percent of parents would prefer it if friends and family gave their kids a cash present instead of actual gifts. Many seem tired of the gift-giving tradition in general. A third of respondents say they would rather spend the money they put toward buying gifts for others on a vacation for themselves. A quarter say they tend to sneak in a gift for themselves while on the hunt for presents, and 26 percent admit to being guilty of “re-gifting” to save time.
