Fire Engulfs Today’s Headlines Ranging From the Deadly to the Destructive to the Unhealthy

One person is dead Wednesday morning–a victim of a house fire in Beech Grove according to officials at the Beech Grove Fire Department. Firefighters arrived at the house located at North 6th Ave. near Albany Street in the late 7 a.m. hour, finding smoke billowing. Fire officials said the residence was cluttered but that didn’t hamper them from extinguishing the blaze pretty quickly.  Once the flames were doused they made the discovery that someone was dead inside. The victim has not been identified. The cause of the early morning blaze is being investigated.

Firefighters in Westfield were busy overnight when a vacant house house went up in flames. Crews arrived on the scene around 1:48 a.m. early Wednesday in the 17000 block of Eagletown Road in the Indy suburb finding a raging fire. Firefighters from Westfield and nearby Sheridan and Zionsville attacked the blaze from the exterior with water that had to be brought in due to no hydrants in this rural area. As crews worked to get on top of this house fire, the structure was engulfed and began to collapse. Fire investigators are working to determine the fires’ cause.

Three European countries are recalling Fireball Whiskey because it contains an ingredient commonly used in anti-freeze.  Here in the U.S., the cinnamon-flavored beverage will probably stay on the shelves because the chemical propylene glycol is classified by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as “generally safe” in small doses.  The CDC agrees with the FDA on this one. The CDC says it’s nearly impossible to take in a toxic dose through oral consumption.  The chemical is also used by fire departments to make artificial smoke and can be found in electronic cigarettes as well. Consumers now have the information to decide whether they’re drinking the popular spicy alcoholic beverage at their own risk. To learn more about this recall, click HERE.

This afternoon’s planned launch of an Atlas Five rocket from Cape Canaveral is going ahead, despite Tuesday night’s fiery explosion at the Wallops Island Flight Facility in Virginia. It’s the 50th launch of an Atlas Five. The Antares rocket that failed last night was flying on just its third mission for NASA. It was carrying supplies to resupply a space station.
