Indy Downtown Goes St Patty's Green

Going “Green” in March means St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. So, if you’re planning to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day over the weekend in Indy, make sure you have a designated driver. Indiana State Police will ramp up their patrols for drunk drivers starting Friday and will continue every weekend for the rest of the month.  According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, alcohol-related crashes accounted for 20-percent of Indiana’s 779 traffic fatalities in 2012. You don’t want to catch a DUI case by simply participating in holiday celebrations.

Speaking of participation, Indianapolis is turning its canal green in honor of St. Patrick’s Day and you can be there to catch all the festivities. Live music, dancing, door prizes and more get underway afterwork at 5 p.m. The 18th annual Greening of the Canal takes place at 5:45 p.m. Or you can just put on your best leprechaun gear and show up at “Karen in the City” today to see Tyler Perry’s “Single Mom’s Club” at the Studio Movie Grill on 86th and Michigan. Karen Vaughn starts broadcasting at 3:00 p.m.

St. Patrick’s Day activities wrap up on Monday with a parade in downtown Indy and a Shamrock Run & Walk.
