Prince has announced that he will be headlining the 20th annual Essence Music Festival in New Orleans in 2014. This isn’t the first time the singer has performed at the festival. In 2004 he performed on the 20th anniversary of his hit single “Purple Rain.” He has also make rounds at other major festivals, headlining this year’s South By Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas.
Essence has been held every Fourth of July weekend since 1995, according to NOLA. The festival takes place July 3 through 6 with nightly concerts at the Louisiana Superdome and empowerment seminars during the day at a convention center nearby.
The rest of Essence’s 2014 lineup should be announced in the coming weeks.
