Teens Facing Charges for Fight
Five teens are facing charges in connection with the city’s crackdown on youth violence. Police say two people were arrested Saturday night when about 20 teenagers started fighting near the McDonald’s on 82nd Street. Officers then arrested three people at Castleton Square Mall after several teenagers started shouting and fighting there.
Underground Cable Fault Causes Power Outage
Power is back on for nearly 800 people downtown. Indianapolis Power and Light says Sunday’s outage started at the Mill Street substation and was caused by an underground cable fault. The power outage caused the central branch of the Indianapolis Public Library to briefly close.
State Trooper Facing Forgry Charges
A 24-year veteran of the Indiana State Police is facing forgery charges. Officials say First Sergeant Rick Reed was arrested Friday. He’s accused of fabricating purchase prices on vehicle titles so he could pay lower sales tax.
Vacant Home Catches Fire Twice
Two fires at a vacant home on the city’s east side are under investigation. Firefighters were called to the house on North Dequincy Street early Sunday morning and then again Sunday afternoon. It’s not yet known if the fire rekindled or if there was a second fire.
IU Wins Big Ten Title
IU is celebrating their first outright Big Ten title in two decades. The Hoosiers beat Michigan Sunday in Ann Arbor 72-to-71. IU goes to the Big Ten Tournament as the Number One seed and will play at noon on Friday.
Bisard Trial Moved
The case against IMPD Officer David Bisard will go to trial on October 15th. The trial was moved to AllenCounty last month because of the media coverage surrounding the case. Bisard is accused of being drunk when he hit a group of motorcyclists with his squad car in August 2010, killing one of them.
Former Brownsburg Valedictorian Accused Of Assault
A former valedictorian of Brownsburg High School and current UCLA student is charged with assault. Police say Paul Meyer was arrested last Thursday after he choked a woman at the Theta Chi fraternity house near campus. Meyer was booked on suspicion of assault with intent to commit rape and false imprisonment, but was released after posting bond.
Mayor Ballard Wants To Develop Market Square Arena Site
Mayor Greg Ballard says the time has come to develop the former site of Market Square Arena. During his State of the City address on Friday, Mayor Ballard said market conditions are right for something “new and grand” to be built there. Market Square Arena was torn down in 2001 and the site was turned into two parking lots.
Airport Authority Evaluating Parking
The Indianapolis airport could soon have premium parking. According to the “Indianapolis Business Journal,” the Airport Authority may get rid of valet service and add a premium parking area that would charge higher fees. The airport board president says the entire parking operation is being evaluated to determine what customers want.
Blue Three Becomes Butler Mascot
ButlerUniversity has a new mascot. Blue Two handed off his collar to Blue Three on Saturday at Hinkle Fieldhouse. A birthday and retirement party is scheduled for Blue Two on March 29th.
