Class Action Lawsuit Filed Against BMV
The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles is accused of overcharging Hoosiers for driver’s licenses. A class action lawsuit filed Thursday claims the BMV charged drivers between four and seven-dollars more than state law allows them. According to the lawsuit, as a whole, drivers may have been overcharged as much as 40-million dollars.
IPS Interim Superintendent To Make Staffing Cuts
IPS interim superintendent Peggy Hinckley says she will make staffing cuts to help balance the district’s budget. IPS is facing a 30-million-dollar shortfall. Hinckley officially takes over as interim superintendent on Monday.
Most Hamilton County Residents Commute To Work
Hamilton County is one of the nation’s largest bedroom communities. According to new data from the U.S. Census Bureau, four out of nine Hamilton County workers drive to Marion County for their jobs. That ranks them sixth in the nation among counties with high numbers of commuters.
Murder Suspect Shoots Himself In Standoff
A man involved in a six-hour standoff with police is in the hospital after shooting himself. Brian Fegley was wanted for the shooting death of a man at a Castleton bar early Thursday. Police say found him at a motel in Lawrence and tried “every avenue” to convince him to come out. When SWAT officers finally entered the room, Fegley was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Mayor To Give State Of The City Address Today
Mayor Greg Ballard will give his State of the City address today. He is expected to focus on education, mass transit, panhandling and the redevelopment of the Market Square Arena site. Mayor Ballard is scheduled to deliver his State of the City address at 1 p.m. at The Alexander Hotel.
Owners Appeal Smoking Ban Ruling
The fight over Indianapolis’ smoking ban isn’t over yet. On Wednesday, a federal judge upheld the ordinance that includes bars, restaurants, bowling alleys and hotel rooms, but the attorney for those fighting the ban says an appeal has been filed. A group of bar owners want the ban overturned because they say it’s forcing them out of business.

(Indianapolis, IN) — Police are trying to figure out why a man would walk across I-65 and stop in the middle of traffic. He was hit and killed just east of downtown Thursday afternoon near the 111 mile marker. The coroner’s office will determine if the man had drugs or alcohol in his system.
Independent Ads Promoting Tax Cut Start Today
An independent TV commercial promoting Governor Pence’s proposed tax cuts starts airing today. The organization called Americans for Prosperity says they will spend over 100-thousand-dollars in their effort to convince legislators the tax cut is a good idea. Governor Pence wants to slash the state income tax by ten-percent, but House Speaker Brian Bosma has said he isn’t sure the reduction is in the state’s best interest.
Saturday Retires, Working Behind The Scenes
Jeff Saturday is a Colt for life. He signed a one-day contract with Indianapolis yesterday before retiring from the NFL. Colts owner Jim Irsay says Saturday will remain with the team, working in media relations and possibly as a coach in the future.
