The audience at Mike Epps’ upcoming stand-up show at Old National Centre also is headed to the movies.

Indianapolis native Epps plans to document his March 8 performance for release in theaters.

The event isn’t planned for television, DVD or online download.

“I would go to another city to do that,” said Epps, adding that Indianapolis is worthy of big-screen treatment.

“The whole theme is that I’m coming back to my hometown to do this show,” the comedian said. “The material that I’m doing on the stage is the script for my movie.”

Epps said his show will include storytelling about Market Square Arena, being raised as a Jehovah’s Witness and “ancestors on Indiana Avenue when it used to look like Harlem.”

“My childhood was painful, colorful and happy all rolled into one,” he said.

A possible title for the stand-up movie is “Black Middle American Comic.”
