Toddler’s funeral scheduled for today
(Trafalgar) — A 3-year-old boy who drowned allegedly at the hands of his mother will be laid to rest today. Jacob Smith died last week during an unsupervised visit with Amanda Smith, 33. Last night dozens of friends and family members held a candlelight vigil for the boy. In other news, Smith was recently accused of attacking a Johnson County jail guard. According to reports, around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, as the guard turned to leave her cell after checking on her, Smith rushed toward him, knocking him to the ground. The guard sustained cuts and complained of head and neck pain. Smith faces a preliminary charge of attempted murder after she attempted to attack police officers with an ax at the time of her arrest last week.
Accused child molester faces additional charges
(Anderson) — An accused child molester out on bond is now facing more charges after he allegedly killed his girlfriend’s dog and its eight puppies. The girlfriend of Dennis White says he choked her and placed his knee on her throat after she refused to give him part of her income tax refund. Her dog attacked White, allowing the girlfriend to get away. Police believe it was at that time White stabbed the dog and her puppies. He was later arrested after going to a grocery store, where employees called police when they noticed him covered in blood.
Sentencing handed down for man videotaping girls
(Indianapolis) — A man convicted of taking videos of teenage girls at Castleton Square Mall has learned his punishment. David Delagrange, 42, was found guilty of taking the video footage while using a camera hidden in his shoe. Delagrange will serve six months behind bars, three years probation and have six months of work release.
Tuberculosis scare in Howard County
(Kokomo) — The Howard County Health Department has issued a public alert regarding an active case of tuberculosis. Health department officials say the infected person is quarantined at home, but may have waited several weeks before seeking medical attention. Officials estimate at least 300 people may have been exposed to the airborne bacterial infection between late September of last year and February 22nd of this year. Customers who frequented the OP Nail Salon and Spa should get tested due to the salon owner’s wife testing positive for the disease.
State sues Super Bowl rental companies
(Indianapolis) — Two Arizona companies are being sued by the state of Indiana over questionable fraudulent home rental deals for Super Bowl 46. Nearly two dozen homeowners say they signed contracts with Arizona-based companies Super West Lodging or Major Event Rentalz to rent out their Indianapolis homes for last month’s big game, paying deposits of up to $5500 dollars. The homeowners later discovered their homes were never listed for rent. The state is seeking the return of nearly $29,000 dollars in deposits paid to the two companies.
